No more last meals
Ok, asking for six, or seven different entrees before you are being put to death is ridiculous. It's a waste of money, food and frankly time. However I do not think completely removing a condemned man's choice regarding a last meal - which is what Texas has decided to do following Lawrence Russell Brewer's epic order - is warranted. It seems like shooting a fly with a bazooka. Can't we put some stipulations on what can and cannot be ordered for a last meal instead of just removing the option? That just seems like a much more logical solution.

I do not feel like society in general owes these inmates a damn thing! None of them deserve special treatment. I think it is far too easy to forget they are on deathrow for a reason. They have already cost all of us enough through legal services, room and board, air-conditioning, medical treatment ect. All because they made poor decisions on their part.
ReplyDeleteI think if you would like to start a campaign to fund the special treatment of last meals for death row inmates, that would great! I dont think anyone would stop you.
On Troy Davis - It seems as though we as a nation have lost our logic. It took 20 years and 2 days too long to carry out his sentence. In those 20 years, 39 judges spent numerous legal hours to review this case. Even after all that, 39 judges could not find any merit to his claims of tribunal error! In fact, I found no evidence myself - Yes, I actually read them! I find it fascinating that in the numerous appeals that were filed he NEVER claimed his innocence!
ReplyDeleteWe will definitely comply with his last words "dig deeper" we will dig 6ft deeper to bury him for the crime. He may not have pulled the trigger, but he contributed to taking the life of Officer MacPhail. INNOCENT MY EYE!
