I wrote a story this week about a child whose arm was broken by a teacher at his daycare. I doubt anyone will disagree that this actions was atrocious. Still I'd like to take a second to commend the owner of the daycare for taking the blame.
Amy Sanders made no excuses for what happened. The reality is you don't know what people will do when they're hired. All you can do is accept the consequences of whatever actions your employees make. Sanders has done that and more. I went into the interview expecting a no comment and line about how the story wasn't news. Instead, I got the truth.
Thank you for doing the right thing and making my job easier.

Changing of the guard
I'd like to say I am not a fan of when anyone dies, but that wouldn't really be true. Harsh dictators that border on the cusp of insanity such as Kim Jong II don't really hold a soft spot in my heart. Sadly, I don't know how much of a difference his death will make in the world.
His son, is just as ruthless and just as nuts as his father, but he's in his late 20s. The same sort of politics will continue to plague the people of North Korea and what I imagine will eventually be the people of the Pacific. The more things change the more they stay the same as the old adage goes.

Protestors can be honored too
Time magazine's annual person that rocked all other persons is out and this year it's the protestor.
It took me a minute to breathe this all in, but I kind of like it. After all, 2011 really was the year where we saw what protesting should be used for and the dangers of poorly organized protests.
Egypt, Libya and Syria have all seen massive protests and in Egypt and Libya these actions have destroyed the government that was in charge of said countries at the time. Syria not so much, but infrastructure and military are both stronger in this country than in the other two. Despite this the protestors actions have raised awareness about Syria and the atrocities in that country.
The we have the London fires and our great and gloriously annoying Occupy movement. Two attempts at change that have done nothing, but irritate the more rational among us. Poor organization and little to no platform have rendered these efforts useless and only made protestors themselves look ridiculous.
With this in mind 2011 really was the year of the protestor. My hats off to you Time Magazine. You nailed this one.

Our representation
I try not to write about politicians too often. After all they're what ruins the otherwise entertaining game of politics - it's always the players that ruin any game. Despite my best efforts to keep my fingers still I've found myself typing numerous status updates and tweets about Rick Perry's most recent campaign ad. It's just revolting.
Before I go any further I think it's important to recognize that the ad, itself, is brilliant. Perry's numerous flops have seriously damaged his credibility and this ad does wonders for the far right and their adoration for him and his great hair. He'll bring them hatred and they'll love him for it.
Now, the actual content of the ad I find incredibly offensive. It's a crusade style attack that uses fear as its ammunition. Who really cares about gays serving openly in the military anyway? And a defense of religion? Why not say a defense of Christianity? That's really what he means. This man has no more love for the constitution than an anarchist and that offends me more than anything.
Personally, I think more time needs to spend addressing our current economic needs. Social issues need to be put to rest for the time, so critical problems that could cause real destruction to our country can be addressed.
I've never really been a fan of Perry, but this little facade' of Christian values has cemented the horrible taste his speeches leave in my mouth.

A local eatery
I've lived in Rockwall for more than a decade and I've never tried L. Trevino's mexican restaurant. That is until last night.
The place has been there for 23 years, it's not corporately owned and the service is amazing. Businesses such as these don't usually survive, but this one has thrived and I couldn't be more happy. The food is amazing. I am a pretty big fan of Mi Cocina, On the Border, Glorias and Luna De Noche, but wow. I was seriously impressed by L. Trevino's. I recommend the chicken fajitas and tortilla soup that isn't over salted and uses all hand cut and fresh produce The price is far less than any of the aforementioned locations as well.
In a time when corporate restaurants dominate most dining scenes it's incredibly refreshing to see a family run business thriving.
